Are there hereditary factors involved?

I've read a few interesting threads here so far, and there seems to be a great many theories and facts about acne and the causes thereof. I see, for instance, good advice about washing hands and avoiding certain foods.

What about hereditary factors, though? Some people tend to suffer badly from acne - sometimes ending up with the horrible nickname Pizza Face - while others get a few zits and that's it.

Any ideas on this?

it seems that there is some debate on whether or not acne is actually or could possibly be genetic. i have read articles along those lines as well.

In a similar thread I had posted that I didn't think heredity was a factor; since then, I've been to the Mayo Clinic site, and they say if a parent has acne, that makes their child more likely to have it. I'm not going to argue with Mayo

Yeah, I noticed your thread after I posted mine. Hope you'll excuse the redundancy.

I didn't have too many outbreaks...I had a few and some of the zits were painful, but fortunately they were not long-lasting and I didn't develop adult acne.

I do not think it is hereditary. Some of the factors may be but acne itself I do not believe is inherited. Things like stress factors are.

I don't think acne can be inherited either. I think it is just something you get when you don't take care of your skin. I think it is other factors besides genetic transfer that cause the acne all over the skin.

Acne is not necessarily from someone not taking care of their skin. You can take excellent care of your skin and be healthy and still find that you have acne.

Based on my family's history, I do not believe it is hereditary, I think there are coincidences and maybe a little influence, but the biggest part is up to the person's health habbits!

Drugs, creams and typical acne cures sometimes work in a partial way but the results are temporary and the side effects are nasty. The tiny handful acne sufferers who have learned how to clear their acne from within and without ever using drugs or over the counters are the only people in the world who keep their skin clear permanently. Now you can learn these clear skin secrets from a nutritionist and a former sufferer who knows from real-world experience exactly how it's done with the knowledge on natural acne treatments
