Go to the doc if
There are a few reasons or times as to when you might want to go to a doctor for acne. Women who suddenly have acne, facial hair and menstrual problems should consult their GYN as this can be related to GYN related illnesses. You might also want to go to the doctor if you try cleaning regimens and OTC products and just see absolutely no results.

I think anytime you have persistent acne that is not responding to over-the-counter remedies and good hygiene, you should see a physician. The physician will try to treat it with a presciption most often, and if that doesn't work, they'll refer you to Dermatology for specialized care.
