Genes

Do your genes have anything to do with your acne problem? If it has been passed by generations to generations, does that mean that it will keep on goin on or does it have nothing to do with genetics?

I never heard anything about this by a doctor, but it makes sense, as my dad had lots of them as a teen and so did my sister, but I had very few, so I don't after for real..

I don't think genetics play a role in acne. Not one person in my family background had acne, yet I ended up with adult acne. So, in my case anyway, there is no link.

I don't think so either. Everyone in my family seemed to have clear skin and my sister and I were left thinking "why us". Even though it is not super bad, it is bad enough for us.

Maybe it was a "generational skip" of a genetic trait? Unlikely, I know, but unless your diet was different from that of your parents and relatives, it sort of makes sense.

New research is showing that it is possible. I know in some families it does seem that more than one person has had a problem with acne over the years.

Acne is really common, and children also inherit the lifestyles of the parents, not just genetics. It's difficult to tell if genetics play a role in acne, but since hormonal issues are inherited, like developing slowly or quickly, it's quite likely to have an indirect influence.

And like Alex said, it could be your diet and lifestyle.
