Dermatology Referrals

For those of you who see dermatologists . . . did your doctor recommend the referral or did you have to ask for it? My friend's doctor keeps trying different treatments, which aren't helping, and I am surprised the doctor hasn't referred her yet.

What I know is, dermatologists just like other doctors, will give you a medicine and let you come back after maybe a week or two to know if it worked. If not, they will change it and check if the new one will work, until finally, they will come up with the medicine that will be tolerated by your body that will eventually heal you.

When you have to ask for something that is bad. It makes me wonder what the doctor thinks you should be doing after all that is why you go to them right? Maybe I am wrong, maybe it is more about money now.

I got a referral from my doctor without even needing to ask. We had tried a few mild treatments that didn't work and so he said he would send me to the dermatologist.

I think it depends. Let your PCP know that you are concerned about your acne or that you would like to consult with someone about how to better treat your acne if that is what you want.

Sometims they will refer you and other times you need to ask them to do so in order to let your doctor know how concerned you are about your acne.
