Skin Care for Christmas?
I would never give an acne prone teenager skin care items as a gift unless the teen specifically asked for something. My friend wants to give her daughter Proactiv (with renewals for the year), but the daughter hasn't asked for this. I think it might hurt her feelings and is a bad idea. What do you think?

I think it's inappropriate unless the person asks for it. Just like I would never give a friend who I thought should use deodorant give it to her for Christmas, I would never give acne medication to a friend for Christmas. I think it's kind of rude, and could hurt their feelings.

It could also be taken as a personal insult against the person, would you give someone who turned 60 false teeth and a walking stick? Well, maybe your mother-in-law but thats not the point.
It would be better to give them it at an unrelated time if they still need treatment for acne. If I had severe acne and someone gave me that, I'd send them a nice big bag of coal for Christmas. |

I would also agree that it is not a gift to give unless the person has asked you to purchase it for them. i know someone gave me proactive once and in a way it was a nice fault but it also made me feel more worried about my acne.

That's a hard decision. Maybe if she maid it so that she gave her other skin care products as well to make it seem more of a nicer gift than one.
I don't really know but I think she might take it the wrong way and get her feelings hurt. |

If it was a friend giving the ProActive I would agree, but it is the mother. I mean a lot of teens are a bit shy to ask for things like that and as long as that is not her only gift I think it might not be that bad. She can explain the gift first, “Hon, I notice that becoming a woman has caused break outs so I got you a little something to revive your incredible beauty back to its fullest.” Maybe she could give it to her after Christmas as a helper.

I know if I was in the position of that girl, I would really much prefer my mom to talk to me about it first, and get my opinion on it. I would not want to be surprised with acne products for the holidays. I would not give somebody who had cold sores a lot cold sore medication as a gift. :P
